JAMB Denies Deducting Marks From Candidates UTME Scores

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that the rumours that 100 marks were deducted from candidates who participated in the 2017 JAMB exam is not true.

This was disclosed by the JAMB’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin in a statement in Abuja.

Dr Benjamin described the rumour as devilish and a ploy to create fear among candidates who participated in the 2017 UTME.

He mentioned that is is true that  JAMB has CCTV cameras mounted in all the CBT centres across the country from which the board observe all the happening in each of the Computer based centres.

However, if any one is found to involve in examination malpractice, such one will have to be sanctioned in accordance with the provision of the Examination Malpractice Act and not by deducting marks from the candidates UTME score.

“The board has not deducted any marks from any candidate and is not contemplating doing that as it is not a condition for sanction in any of the provisions of the law against malpractice.

“Again, we call on all candidates to be mindful of fraudulent characters who will send misleading information to create panic and take advantage of the situation to defraud them” he warned.

Recall the report emerged yesterday that JAMB sent messages to certain candidates who were allegedly caught cheating as captured by the CCTV cameras informing them that 100 marks have been deducted from their UTME scores.

Benjamin also denied that rumour that some candidates cannot see their results because they are owing JAMB. He said this is also false.

He advised candidates to check their result via their email addresses or the JAMB website and advised those that have issues and complaints to contact the board or check the organisation’s website for detailed information and numbers for enquiries.
