JAMB To Stop Setting General Cut-Off Mark For Universities, Polytechnics And Colleges

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Is-haq Oloyede, through a statement by the the board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin has disclosed that the board is collaborating with the Federal Government in ensuring that the needed change on the education industry is achieved.

According to a statement this was the reason for the policy reforms that the board is currently making. He mentioned the issues of scrapping the use of scratch cards in the boards examination processes station that m,any of these reforms will ensure that fraudulent and sharp practices associated with its services and the examination process is curtailed.

The statement further mentioned that the JAMB , Mr. Oloyede has called for a national debate to deal with the issues of cut-off marks at he believes that it is not fair enough. Having a uniform cut-off mark for universities, polytechnics and Colleges of education does not make sense since the certificates obtained in these three are different; Universities issues degrees, polytechnics issue diploma and Colleges of education issues NCE. When you create a uniform cut-off mark for all of them, polytechnics and colleges of education will be hindered from admitting the number of students they ought to have admitted thereby compromising the future of some of these students.

He therefore proposes that tertiary institutions should be able to set their own cut off marks and admit their own candidates.
