Bowen University Post-UTME Form, Screening Date and Requirements – 2023/2024

Bowen University Post-UTME screening eligibility and registration procedure for the 2023/2024 has been published. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission to BOWEN UNIVERSITY degree programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Bowen University Post-UTME Admission Requirements – 2023/2024

(a) All applicants are required to sit for 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

(b) All applicants are required to have credits at SSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or approved equivalent in at least five (5) subjects, which must include English Language and four other subjects as may be specified by each Faculty.

(c) The five credits should be obtained at not more than two sittings.

(d) For Medicine and Surgery (MB; BS), Nursing Science and Physiotherapy programmes, the five credits (including Mathematics and English) must be obtained at only one sitting and NABTEB is not acceptable.

(e) Candidates awaiting results may apply.

(f) All applicants will be required to go through Bowen University Screening Exercise.

(g) Applicants are to complete the University Application forms.

(h) Interested candidates who have applied to JAMB for admission and wish to change their choice of institution to Bowen University are required to:

  1. Apply for change of institution through JAMB
  2. Complete Bowen University Application Form

iii. Participate in the Bowen University screening exercise.

2. DIRECT ENTRY

All applicants for Direct Entry must satisfy any of the following:

(a) NCE at credit level, ND and approved equivalents with at least Lower Credit in relevant fields.

(b) At least two Advanced Level passes at acceptable grade level.

(c) The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) or Cambridge Moderated School of Basic Studies at acceptable grade levels.

In addition to NCE/ND/IJMB, JUPEB or two Advanced Level papers specified by each faculty or programme, candidates must also satisfy the Ordinary Level requirements.

HND holders may be admitted to 200 Level or 300 Level depending on the regulation guiding admission to each department / programme.

All direct entry candidates are required to apply through JAMB.

2. Admission Requirements

(a) O’ Level Subjects

Candidates must possess five O’ Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

For Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Physiotherapy programmes, the five (5) O’ Level credits (including Mathematics and English) must be obtained at one sitting and NABTEB is not acceptable.

(b) UTME Subjects

English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics

(c) Direct Entry

(i) Advanced Level GCE/Cambridge/IJMB/JUPEB at an acceptable grade level

(ii) Candidates with B. Sc. Second Class Upper Division in a related discipline can apply for the MB;BS programme.

(iii) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in 2(a) above.

(iv) For Nursing Science, candidates with RN/SRN plus five (5) O’ level credits including English Language and Mathematics can apply and be admitted to 200 Level.

(v) For Physiotherapy, Public Health and Nursing, candidates with a degree in relevant discipline not less than 2nd Class Lower Division can apply.

(vi) For Medical Laboratory Sciences;

*Candidates holding a minimum of three Advanced Level GCE/Cambridge/IJMB/JUPEB at Grade C pass in each of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

*B.Sc. degree in relevant disciplines such as Zoology, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, etc; as approved by Senate.

*HND in relevant fields as approved by Senate

(B) FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE (4 or 5 Year Programme)

2. Admission Requirements

(a) O’ Level Subjects

Candidates must possess five O’ Level credits to include: English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science/ Fisheries/Animal Husbandry, Chemistry and one of Physics, Geography, Economics, Civic Education, Food and Nutrition, Integrated Science and Information technology.

Note:

(i) For Food Science and Technology and Nutrition and Dietetics, candidates must possess five O’ Level credits to include Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(ii) For Environmental Management and Control, candidates must possess five O’level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agric. Science, Chemistry and one of Physics, Geography or Economics.

(b) UTME Subjects

English Language, Chemistry, Biology & Physics/Mathematics

(c) Direct Entry

(i) NCE/ND or approved equivalent in relevant programmes.

(ii) At least two Advanced Level passes to include Chemistry and any one of the following: Biology/Botany, Zoology/Agricultural Science, Economics, Physics, Geography, and Sociology

(iii) IJMB, JUPEB at acceptable grade levels in relevant subjects

(iv) HND holders from a recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower Credit.

(v) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in 2(a) above.

(vi) For Nutrition and Dietetics, candidates must possess: NCE/ND or approved equivalent in Food and Nutrition or be a Registered Nurse or approved equivalent in relevant fields.

(C) FACULTY OF HUMANITIES (3 or 4 Year Programme)

1. General Entry Requirements

(a) All applicants are required to have credits in at least five O` Level (5) subjects at SSCE, GCE, NECO, or approved equivalent.

(b) The five (5) credits must include English language and other specific departmental requirements. (c) The five credits must be obtained at not more than two sittings.

(d) Candidates awaiting results may also apply.

(ii) IJMB/JUPEB/International Baccalaureate Certificate at acceptable grade levels.

(iii) NCE, ND or approved equivalents with at least Upper Credit in relevant fields

(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O` Level requirements as stated in (3b) above.

(d) UTME Subjects

English Language, History/Government/Civic Education and any other two subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.

The five O` Level credits to include English Language, Literature-in-English and three other Arts or Social Science subjects.

For Music the five O` Level Credits to include English Language plus three other Arts or Social Science subjects. A recognized certificate in Music from approved institution will be an advantage.

(c) Direct Entry

(i) At least two Advanced Level passes in Literature and one other Arts subject.

(ii) IJMB/JUPEB at acceptable grade levels.

(iii) Diploma in Theatre Arts/Dramatic Arts from an accredited institution.

(iv) For Music at least two Advanced Level passes or equivalents including Music. NCE/ND or approved equivalent in relevant subjects or ABRSM London Grade viii.

(v) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O` Level requirements as stated in (4b) above.

5. Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies

Candidates seeking admission to the Faculty of Science must possess a minimum of five (5) Ordinary Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics in addition to specific departmental requirements.

(iii) ND holders must possess a minimum of Lower Credit

(iv) HND holders must possess a minimum of Lower Credit for admission to 300 Level.

(v) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in (1b) above.

(iii) Holders of HND from a recognised Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower credit in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry and Laboratory Technology can be admitted to 300 Level.

(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in (3b) above.

(4) Department of Computer Science and Information Technology

(c) Direct Entry

(i) NCE/ND or approved equivalent with at least Merit and Upper Credit respectively in the relevant fields.

(ii) IJMB, JUPEB, Cambridge Moderated School of Basic Studies, GCE Advanced Level or approved equivalents at acceptable grade levels in Mathematics and Physics

(iii) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in (4b) above.

(iv) All Direct Entry candidates are required to apply through JAMB.

(5) Department of Mathematics and Statistics

The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two subjects from Statistics, Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science, Computer Studies, Geography, Economics, Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing.

(c) Direct Entry

(i) At least two GCE Advanced Level passes to include Mathematics and any one of Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Statistics and Physics.

(ii) IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent at an acceptable grade level.

(iii) For Statistics, a Diploma in Statistics from a recognized university is acceptable.

(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in (5b i & ii) above

(d) UTME Subjects

English Language, Mathematics and any other two relevant subjects.

(6) Department of Physics and Solar Energy

(a) Degree Programme

(c) Direct Entry

(i) At least two GCE Advanced Level Passes in Mathematics and Physics. In exceptional cases, Physics and Chemistry may be considered.

(ii) IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent.

(iii) HND holders from a recognised Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower Credits in Physics or Physics with Electronics or Electrical and Electronics Engineering may be admitted to 300 Level.

(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ Level requirements as stated in (6b) above.

(F) FACULTY OF ENGINEERING (5 Year Programme)

General Entry Requirements

Candidates seeking admission to the Faculty of Engineering must possess a minimum of five (5) Ordinary Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, in addition to specific departmental requirements.

(i) At least two Advanced Level passes to include History/ Government, Civics, Geography, Economics or equivalent in Social Science subjects approved by Senate of Bowen University.

(ii) IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND or its approved equivalent

(iii) HND holders with a minimum of Upper Credit from a recognized Polytechnic in Public Administration, Local Government Studies, and Political Economy.

(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ Level requirements as stated in (5b) above.

(6) Department of Sociology

(a) Degree Programme

(b) O’ Level Subjects

The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics and at least one from Economics, Geography, Government or History and any other two subjects at not more than two sittings in SSCE, NECO, GCE, or their equivalent.

(c) Direct Entry

(i) At least two Advanced Level passes to include Sociology, Psychology, Economics, History or Government, Geography, and Religious Studies.

(ii) IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND or its approved equivalent.

(iii) HND holders with a minimum of Upper Credit from a recognized Polytechnic in approved Sociology related subjects.

(iv) In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ Level requirements as stated in (6b) above.
