BSU 2016/2017 Part-time Degree Admission Form Is Out – See Details

The Benue State University, Markurdi, Nigeria, BSU 2016/2017 Part-time Degree Admission form is out.

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following part-time programmes offered by the Centre for Continuing Education Programmes leading to the award of Certificates and Degrees of the Benue State University, Makurdi, for the 2016/2017, Academic Session;

Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) Part-Time Degree in French
Candidates wishing to register for the six (6) year programme must have at least five (5) credits, three of which must be in French, English Language, Literature in English and any other two credits at SSCE level or its equivalent which shall not be more than two sittings. They must also have a satisfactory UTME score or as shall be decided by the University.

i) Candidates who apply for the five year programme must possess at least six points at IJMB or GCE two (Advanced level) passes or with a minimum of nine points at NCE, plus three ‘O’ level subjects at credit level. One of the ‘A’ level subjects must be in French.

ii) Candidates who possess a Diploma Certificate in French with minimum of Upper Credit recognized by the University are also eligible. In addition, they are to have three credits passes at the SSCE, NECO or their equivalents.

iii) Candidates with equivalent qualification from Francophone Institutions recognized by the University who possess ‘O’ Level credits in English and Literature in English are also legible.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) Part-Time Degree in Linguistics
i. A candidate wishing to register for B.A. (Linguistics) programme should possess at least five credits, two of which must be in English Language, Literature in English or Nigerian Languages and any other three credits at the SSCE level or the equivalent.

ii. Candidates who possess at least two ‘A’ Level passes, one of which must be in English/French Language or Nigerian Language.

iii. Two credit passes at NCE in English/French/African Languages

iv. Candidates with equivalent qualifications from Francophone Institutions who possess at least an ‘O’ Level credit in English Language and Literature in English or in French.

v. Candidates with Diploma Certificate (at least Upper Credit) in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution shall be admitted into this degree programme.
Proficiency Certificate in French (PCF)

a. Candidates who possess a minimum of Secondary School Education with at least a pass in English Language are eligible. Proficiency Certificate in Tiv Language.

b. Candidates should possess at least four (4) credits at the ordinary level, one of which must be in English Language. An equivalent qualification shall be accepted.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) Part-Time Degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies
The Department shall offer admission in two categories of students:
(a) Those for a UTME (Part-Time) Degree programme and
(b) Those for a DIRECT ENTRY (Part-Time) Degree programme
UTME (Part-Time) Degree Programme

Candidates for this category shall have a minimum entry requirement of Five years (5) credits including CRS and English Language, the Senior Certificate Examinations (SSCE), National Examination Council (NECO) or their equivalent, which shall not be more than two sittings with a satisfactory UTME scores as shall be decided by the University. UTME subjects must also include CRS, English Language and any other two subjects from the Arts and Social Sciences, candidates are expected to spend a minimum of six years and maximum of nine years (150% of the Regular duration).

Direct Entry (Part-Time) Degree Programme
Direct Entry candidates are required to spend a minimum of five (5) years and maximum of seven (7) years (150% of the Regular Direct Entry candidates). In addition, they must possess the following qualifications:

i. A pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE) with a minimum of eight (8) points, Diploma with minimum grade of Upper Credits or IJMB six points plus three subjects at credit ‘O’ level in SSCE or equivalent including English Language and General Paper obtained at one sitting.

ii. A three or two-year Diploma in Theology, Philosophy, or Religious Studies recognized by the University, plus five credits at SSCE ‘O’ level including English Language etc.

Certificate Courses in Library and Information Science
A. Library Assistants (LAC)
Candidates should possess at least one of the following qualifications:-
i. WASC/SSCE with at least two (2) credits including English Language.

B. Senior Library Assistants (SLA)
i. Candidates must be on the rank of library assistant and must have been confirmed on the job.

ii. Candidate must have a WASCE/SSCE pass or Grade II teacher’s certificate or a pass in the Library Assistants’ comprehensive examination.

iii. Candidates who attain the gained position of Library Assistant through promotion with a distinction in the Library Assistants comprehensive examination must spend one year before registration, while others with ordinary pass will have to spend two years before registering.

iv. Candidates must have been strongly recommended by his/her Head of section

v. The nominee must be successful in a written and oral interview to be conducted by the training committee.

C. Assistant Library Officers’ Programme (ALO)
i. Candidate must have been on the rank of Senior Library Assistant for a period not less than 2 years on the job.

ii. Candidate must possess at least one of the following qualifications:

iii. Senior Library Assistant Certificate in addition to WASC/SSCE Grade II Certificate

iv. The nominee must be strongly recommended by his/her Head of section.

v. The nominee must be successful in a written and oral interview to be conducted by the training committee.

Duration of Programme

The Part-time Degree Programme in B.A French, Linguistics, Philosophy and Religious Studies, is to run for a minimum of six years (12 Semesters) and maximum of eight years (16 Semesters) for UTME candidates and five years (10 Semesters) and maximum of seven years (14 Semesters) for those who will come in through Direct Entry (DE).

For Certificate Programme in French: – The programme shall last for two academic sessions or four semesters. However, one additional academic session or semesters shall be allowed for candidates with academic problems.

Certificate Programme in Tiv Language: –
The programme shall last for the academic session or two semesters.
However, one additional academic session or two semesters shall be allowed for candidates with academic problems.

Certificate programme in Library and Information Science: –
The programmes are categorized into three levels and each level is for a duration of two (2) semester.
Level I – Library Assistants Programme
Level II – Senior Library Assistant Programme
Level III – Assistant Library Officer’s Programme
B.Sc. (Hons) Mass Communication (Part-Time)

Candidates for admission into the Part-Time degree programme in Mass Communication should possess five (5) credits in Senior Secondary School Certificate or National Examination Council (NECO) or its equivalent, which must include English and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry Requirements
Candidates for direct entry shall possess five (5) credits passes in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) or its equivalent including English and Mathematics, two (2) of which shall be at the advanced level or four (4) credit passes, three (3) of which shall be advanced level, provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examinations. National holders at upper credit level or IJMB with a minimum of six (6) points and NCE with a minimum of nine (9) points are acceptable.

2. B.Sc. (Hons) Public Administration
The Department shall offer admission to two (2) categories of students; those for UTME (Part-Time) those for Direct Entry (Part-Time).
UTME (Part-Time) Degree Programme

Candidates for this category, shall have Senior Secondary School Certificate or General Certificate of Education or their equivalents, with at least five (5) credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two (2) other subjects which should include either Government or History.
Direct Entry (Part-Time) Degree Programme

Candidates shall possess (5) Credits passes in the General Certificate of Education or its equivalent including Mathematics and English language two (2) of which shall be at the advanced level, or four (4) credits passes, two (2) of which shall be at advanced level, provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examination. The subject passed at the ‘A’ level includes Government or History. National Diploma in Public Administration passed at Upper Credit, IJMB six (6) points and NCE with minimum of nine (9) points is also acceptable.

Duration of the Programme
The programmes are expected to last for a minimum of six academic years (12 semesters) and maximum of eight academic years (16 semesters) for UTME candidates and minimum of five years (10 semesters) and maximum of seven years (14 semesters) for Direct Entry candidates.

Method Of Application

i. Candidates are to visit the university’s website; www.bsum.edu.ng  click on “Centre for Continuing Education” under “applications” on the Benue State University Portal Section then proceed to complete the pre-registration information and submit print a copy of it.

ii. Afterwards, proceed to Fidelity bank with the printed copy of pre-registration form and make a nonrefundable payment of  Five thousand naira (N 5,000.00) using the generated application number.

iii. Return to www.bsum.edu.ng and click on “Centre for Continuing Education” under “applications” on the Benue State University Portal Section  to complete the Application form and submit.

Please,  ensure your print two hard copies of the completed form for record purposes.

Completed application forms must be returned with photocopies of relevant documents nit later than two week of purchasing the form to the Secretary, Centre for Continuing Education.
