How To Reject An Admission After Accepting It On JAMB CAPS

The JAMB CAPS has made the admission process so easy that when a Candidate does not want the admission offered to him/her during the year’s admission exercise, the candidate would only need to reject the offer of admission  and he/she would be available to the institution or any other institution in addition to the Market Place for reconsideration (recommendation) through CAPS.

Now, what happens when a candidate accepts an admission on JAMB CAPS and later wants to reject it, how would he or she go about it? Well, that’s what this post is all about. So if you care to know read on.

According to JAMB, where a candidate is offered admission and after Acceptance, He/She or the institution desires to change the course or programme offered and Accepted while the Year’s Admission is still in Progress, such candidate will have to fill and process the Substitution of Programme Form which is available on CAPS for download.

The Form reads in part “I have accepted earlier to read…………….. and now agree that my programme should be changed to …………..……”.

The Head of the institution MUST sign the form which would be transmitted to Coordinator of the JAMB State Office for upload to CAPS for Registrar’s approval.

Once the Registrar gives approval, the candidate’s status will be automatically updated and he/she would be informed through email.

Candidates should also note that where a candidate is Offered Admission and he/she neither accepts nor rejects the offer and institution that offered the admission desires to replace or substitute such candidate, the institution will forward a list of candidates that fall in that category for JAMB’s registrar’s approval.

Once approved by the JAMB Registrar, the names of the candidates will be deleted and the quota made available to the institution.

    Hello Admin.
Pls is it possible for the institution to change a candidate course that he/she didn’t accept or reject?
If yes, what is the process involved?
My son was offered for a course he doesn’t like at all & we were advised not to accept it.
Kindly advise based on your experience.

    Thank you.

If you are totally sure that you do not want the admission, it is best to reject it . If you choose neither to accept or reject, the admission will likely be withdrawn without any consideration. But if you choose to reject, you may stand a chance (no guarantees) of being considered for other courses that the school is yet to meet the admission quota for. But the issue is, you may still end up not liking the course because often times the courses left at this point are majorly courses with low number of applicants which means majority of students may not like it. So my advise is if you are totally sure that you do not want the course already given and would rather prefer to write another JAMB instead of taking the course, then go ahead and reject it and then wait and hope you will be considered for other courses. But if you know that writing another JAMB is not part of the bargain, then accept the one already given.
