The Chairman of Exam Ethics Marshals International, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Mr Ike Onyechere, has called on the Federal Government to give tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of education) the sole right to admit candidates into specific courses offered in the institutions based on their criteria instead of being regulated by a coordinating body, in this case JAMB.
According to him, the admission of students should be deregulated and tertiary institutions given autonomy to admit students as it is done in most developed and developing countries.
He wondered why Universities are allowed to choose their own candidates at Masters and Doctorate level and cannot do the same at the undergraduate level.

He further stated that if tertiary institutions are given full autonomy to admit candidates at the undergraduate level, about 500 tertiary institutions in the country will immediately create about 500,000 jobs because they will have full-fledged departments to make and process admissions.
It will be recalled that the former Vice-Chancellor of Veritas University, Prof. Mike Kwanashie, had earlier called for the same autonomy to enable tertiary institutions process their admissions independently.
