FG Plans Alternative Exam For WAEC 2020 Candidates, Gives Date For Review of Reopening Guidelines

The Federal Government has disclosed that the country is in talks with stakeholders concerning a new exam date and a new timetable for the 2020 WAEC exams. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba in Abuja.

The minister stated if the stakeholders refuse to shift the timetable for the exam to a new date and all other forms of negotiation fail, 2020 WAEC candidates may have to sit for the General Certificate Examinations (GCE) in November and no longer WAEC May/June SSCE.

According to him, sitting for GCE examinations may become the only option for Nigerian students if the government cannot convince WAEC to shift its examinations.

He also stated that, in the event that Nigeria finally meets up with the WAEC timetable, subjects such as Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba will have to be shifted behind to make room for the writing of general subjects with other participating countries.

Concerning the reopening of schools, Nwajiuba stated that the government would meet with stakeholders again on July 30, to review the guidelines, provisions, and preparations for safe reopening of schools.

I suggest the federal government return’s our WAEC money, sincerely day can’t handle the situation at hand at all. Better still we go to the market place and write the WAEC since covid19 can be spread in the market place.
