JAMB announces admission deadlines for 2025/2026 session

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has extended the deadline for admission into public universities.

This extension follows an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) due to disruptions caused by a court order that affected the 2025/26 admission list until 28th October 2025. Additionally, the National Universities Commission (NUC) released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes in 37 universities on 29th October 2025, and admissions into those programmes are just starting.

According to the directive, the admission timelines for the various institutions are now as follow:

  • Public Universities must complete their admissions by 17th November, 2025.
  • Private Universities must finalize all admissions by 30th November, 2025.
  • Other Institutions (public and private polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions) must wrap up admissions by 31st December, 2025.

Institutions are strongly encouraged to complete admissions well ahead of these deadlines, even if their academic session has not yet commenced. Schools that are not ready to resume immediately are advised to conclude admissions and archive them until they are ready to.

Candidates yet to be admitted are also advised to keep checking their admission status on the JAMB CAPS as they may likely be admitted before the new deadline.

This decision is expected to achieve the following:

  • Stabilize the academic calendar across universities and other tertiary institutions.
  • Ensure fair access to available admission slots for both UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates.
  • Reduce cases of admission fraud, age falsification, and delayed resumption for students.

As a result, all institutions conducting Post-UTME and Direct Entry screenings are expected to complete the process quickly to avoid going against the 2025 JAMB admission schedule.

For candidates, this means you should closely monitor your school’s Post-UTME portal, stay updated on application requirements, and ensure you complete your registration and screening before the deadlines to secure your admission for the 2025/2026 academic session.
