House Of Rep Directs JAMB To Extend 2017 UTME Registration Deadline

The House of Representatives has called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB to extend the timeline for the  2017 UTME registration; stating that one month March 20th – April 19th is not enough for registration of candidates.

This move followed a motion raised by Danburan Nuhu (Kano-APC). In his motion, Mr. Nuhu stated that during the 2016 UTME exercise, about 1.6 million candidates were registered out of which about one million got the required score to be admitted in the various tertiary institution.

Now when you add the number of those not admitted in 2016 to the fresh candidates registering in 2017, you will have about 2 million candidates registering for the examination in 2017. He argued that the registration centres can only register 250 candidates per time due to less space and inadequate number of computers.

He urged JAMB to specify the requirements as well as safety measures, that approved centres need to put in place to to be used for the conduct of the UTME Computer Based Test and ensure to deploy safety equipment to each centre to prevent any incidence of stampede due to overcrowding.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the House and the committee on basic education was mandated to direct JAMB to comply with the resolutions.

It will be recalled that JAMB has earlier stated that there will be no extension of the 2017 registration deadline
