ASUU directs members to seek alternative means of survival

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed lecturers to seek alternative means of survival as the government has not paid the salaries of its members since February.

The union equally vowed to press home its demands until the government bows, asking students and parents not to expect any possible resumption of universities soon.

This was disclosed by the Coordinator of ASUU (Abuja Zone), Prof. Theophilus Lagi, during a press conference at the Gwagwalada campus of the University of Abuja. He stated that the lecturers would not call off the strike until the government does the right thing.

“Today, we wish to let Nigerians especially our students and parents know that there is no hope in sight to ending or suspending the ASUU strike that has lingered for several months as Government is yet to show serious commitment towards addressing our core demands. “Our members have been advised to seek other legitimate means of survival as the Government has not released salaries withheld since February 2020.” the text read.

With this development, it is obvious that ASUU is not ready to back down until the government gives in to their demands. The government on its own part is not taking the whole thing as seriously as it should.

The big question is how long more do students have to stay at home before the government and ASUU resolve this ongoing strike?

This is a nice agenda from ASUU, but the scenario is not different from that of a campaign manifesto……. No reasonable student will join ASUU in this move seeing their past deeds. How they failed many times to provide such facilities.
They are just like the government they are fighting again.

ASUU didn’t say so, the Twitter handle that guises to be ASUU’s who said so has been tagged as impersonator. According to Professor Biodun Ogunyemi ASUU do not have a Twitter handle. Speaking to Arise news this morning when asked about this he said the Union had never release such statement
