JAMB official cut-off marks for 2023 admissions announced

JAMB has approved the official minimum cut-off mark for 2023/2024 admissions for Universities, polytechnic and Colleges of Education. This was part of the decision taken at the 2024 policy meeting  held in Abuja and chaired by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

For universities, 140 was approved as the national minimum cut-off mark for admission this year while 100 was approved for Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

It was also decided that every institution can set its minimum UTME score acceptable to it for admission. For Direct Entry admissions, every institution will determine the number of points required by it for direct entry admission. Institution will not be allowed to offer admission to candidates whose total score or points is below the minimum score set by the institution and approved at the Policy Meeting.

It was also decided that all applications for regular and non-regular admissions to tertiary institutions must be routed through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in conformity with its enabling law. The meeting also called for the review of admission criteria to give 10per cent discretional power of admission to heads of tertiary institutions.

This means that schools will begin announcing their Post-UTME sales forms and screening dates soon. The time to start your preparation is now. Get the official Post-UTME Past Questions and Answers of the various schools. Click here to get yours now.

The board also pegged the amount for Post-UTME screening at N2,000. According to JAMB, any institution interested in conducting any form of screening could do so, but the charge for the screening should not exceed N2,000 only.

JAMB also stated that it is planning a “Bring Your Own Device” initiative for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations and the Direct Entry Examinations. According to Oloyede, the initiative is such that it would allow candidates to take the examinations on their mobile phones. The JAMB boss noted that the board has continued to spend huge amounts of money on the conduct of examinations, hence the need for the initiative.
