Productive Things Every Student Should Learn and Do While Staying At Home

At the moment, we do not know when schools will resume. Many students are already complaining that they are tired of staying at home. But like it is said, disappointments are often blessing in disguise.

As the stay-at-home/lockdown continues, there are productive things you can do and learn that will change your life for the better as a student. So instead of lamenting of boredom, why not invest this free time you have now into something that you will be proud of tomorrow.

Students can take this time to learn a new set of skills that will help improve their CVs, help them to get better jobs, and earn more as well as possibly serve as an added advantage to them in the nearest future.

The truth is that no skill or knowledge is a waste. Whatever you learn today may be all you will need to seize an opportunity that will turn your life around for good tomorrow.

The internet gives everyone the opportunity to learn anything- anything at all. So you do not need to step out of your house to learn something that will be gainful to you tomorrow and the interesting thing is that you can learn most of these things for FREE if you are determined and focused.

This post will highlight productive things every student should learn and do during this lockdown to improve the course of their lives in times to come.

Productive Things Students Should Do and Learn Now That Will Shape Them For A Great Future

Learn a language: This is a skill that you can add to your CV as well. It can even open up new avenues in your career later on. For those that will like to further their studies abroad in countries like Germany, France etc, it is always good to learn the language of the country you will be going to for study. Being able to freely communicate in the local language will no doubt pave the way for you.

You may not become fluent in the new language before the lockdown is lifted but start learning the basics and depending on how interested you are in learning the language, you can go ahead to become a guru in the language in the near future. You can check out language apps like Duolingo Android users can check their play store for this app or other language apps. Some of them have both free and paid plans. Don’t forget to go through the reviews before selecting a website or an app.

Learn how to code: Many students often say they wanted to learn how to code. Well, this may be your best opportunity to start learning how to code. I do not need to tell you that many of the highest paid jobs in the world are centered around software, app, and web development, and without knowing how to code, you do not stand a chance in getting those kinds of jobs. You can check out free programming courses on Coursera here. Please do know that for you to be very good at coding, you need to learn how to type pretty fast. So if your typing skill is not above average, you need to improve on it first before venturing into coding.

Learn a Skill/Craft: There are countless crafts you can learn online. I know people that have learned the following skill on youtube; photography, how to play a keyboard, guitar, violin, even the typing skill I mentioned earlier online. Check out the myriad of skills on YouTube and social media.  Students can choose to learn creative writing, digital marketing skills, hairdressing, beads making, graphics designing, photography skills, how to design and edit videos/photos and so much more. This will make them independent and more resourceful.

Study Ahead: If you can, get the course outline from your department in the school and start studying ahead of time. Do not wait until school reopens to start studying. Many schools will likely rush through the semester or session so they can meet up with the next academic session and this means there may not be enough time for students to prepare for the exams.

Write a Book: If you’ve always wanted to write a book but never found the time or inspiration, this is your chance. You don’t really need a publisher. These days you can self-publish your book in the form of an e-book. You can equally upload your book on Amazon via Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and if your book turns out a best-seller, you can earn good passive income from it for life. Isn’t that interesting?

Read a book: One quality of all successful men is reading books. As students, there are various books you can read that will help shape your minds for a great future. Many of these books are online and you can download them on your phone and read them everywhere you go. If you can’t decide which book to read then you can consider these all-time classics – Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki; Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill; How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.

Start a blog: Do you have a passion, a hobby, idea, or something you would like to passionately talk about and share information concerning it? If yes, then why don’t you start a blog and share your knowledge?  Many university students make good money from blogging all over the world. Today, if you have a good blog, you can equally add it to your CV, if it is centered around the interest of your employer, it gives you an edge. If you want to give this a shot, check google for basic information on blogging; then set up a WordPress account for free blogging, and take it from there.

Conclusion:

Students should not use this period as an excuse to become mediocre. There is a need for them to understand that whatever is happening now will go with time and they will be left with how much value they have added to themselves by how well they have utilized this time.
